Desolation / Consolation

Desolation

In the quiet moments I cannot avoid
Between breaths, between heartbeats
Life stops
The past and future, obliterated
The current, a long merciless unending
Destroys hope, dreams, expectations
Assassinating all
And I, unending also, long for it to cease
For the flow of life to resume.

Consolation

Life in each drawn breath
Refreshed, renewed, rejoiced
Life in every heartbeat
Rhythm and restitution
Energy rushing through me
Connection to this plane
We focus and feel its force
Though fragile and finite
Finely tuned, the body’s refrain:
live – love – live
