Ruts carved out on my face
Deep lines from the salty erosion
For all the emotions I don’t feel
Humor, hope, love.

No one wants to connect with me
Fearful of feeling what I feel
Unconnected to anything
Dreary, surreal.

Pithy sayings and callous remarks
Are the only fare I receive
An undercurrent of social hate
Keeping me at bay.

This is all I feel these days
Tears for the glittering world
Sorrowful abode where I abide
Alone, curled.
