Forty Winks

Ah, that familiar dread
When I must go to bed
Yet do not wish to sleep

The nightmares await
Like a bad date
I do not want to keep

Still, I must doze
So here I repose
Hoping those bad boys stay away

The landscape I see
As slumber takes me
Is nothing like my normal day

I am startled awake
Just before daybreak
Relieved to regain my consciousness

Such a crazy fling
My reckless mental traipsing
The experience leaves me breathless
