Little Lark

You live in that other world
The realm of dark
Singing loudly, proudly
To the indifferent night

The harsh city lights
Have confused you, lost little lark
So you sing like a nightingale
Forsaking sunshine

I understand your persistence
For I am confused too
Outside, living opposite my world
Awake with you

Straining to hear rejoinder
You believe yourself alone
None of your ken answer
Your lonely, lovely tune

Yet I am here listening
Little lark, I hear you
Though I cannot respond
Still, I accompany you
