Metamorphosis

Cocooned away from the world
I transform into a more beautiful me.

When I emerge, I must flit away
And leave the life I knew behind.

I can no longer crawl along the leaves.
I cannot remain hid in the trees.

I will soar. I must fly.
I am free, fluttering on the breeze.

The green is gone, and I live in the sky.
The world did not change. Only I.

I listened to Philip Glass’ piece Mad Rush and felt inspired to write this poem. I showed it to a friend, who pointed out to me that he has already written five pieces called Metamorphosis 1-5. I did not know this! I went and listened to all five of them. He writes gorgeous, inspiring music. Now i want to listen to everything I can find of his.
