Patrick Jane

He distracted the girl with his charm
As his hand reached behind her ear
When he pulled a coin from her locks
The crowd all round them cheered

He held his cards close to his vest
And there was no tell of his guile
To the players he looked confident
And they never saw past his smile

To the world without he was magical
But inside him darkness remained
Consuming anger for another’s smile
Dark red, above his bed, stained

I wrote this poem and the poem “Vested Interests” as a tribute to the TV show The Mentalist and its main character, Patrick Jane.
