The Dream

I am a ballerina
Floating, twirling, graceful
Pirouetting on pointed toes
Gliding across the ground
As the world around me crumbles down
I awake
Climb out of bed
And into my wheelchair.
Cancer took my leg
But still I dance.

I wrote this in response to a writing prompt. Someone in my writing group posted a picture of a young woman in a wheelchair, and asked us to write stories or poems about it.
